New England Aquarium Reception & Tara Expedition Boat Tour

On the evening of Thursday, September 27th, The SPC & BillerudKorsnäs will host a special reception at the famous New England Aquarium, where attendees will mingle with colleagues and new friends among the aquatic life. During the reception, we will also be hosting small group tours of the Tara Expedition schooner, docked a short walk from the Aquarium. This special event will tie into to our ‘All At Sea’ sessions at SPC Advance, which will explore solutions to the marine debris crisis from a variety of viewpoints.

Marine debris is a growing concern across the globe, and the packaging industry can do a lot to mitigate its worst effects. Our hope is that attendees are inspired to bring new ideas back to their companies to develop solutions that can address this crisis.

Tara Expedition Tour

The Tara schooner has traveled over 300,000 kilometers across the world’s oceans. The French non-profit has completed 10 expeditions to study and understand the impacts of climate change and the ecological crisis on the ocean.

Tara is a floating research vessel that lends out the boat to researchers from all over the world who travel to every possible destination to study biological diversity, pollution, and the effect of climate change on the oceans. Their findings and analyses are used by organizations across the world, including the UN.

As part of BillerudKorsnäs’s commitment to sustainable development, the company has supported the Tara Expeditions to increase awareness of issues such as marine debris and ocean plastic.

Every day, BillerudKorsnäs challenges conventional packaging for a more sustainable future. We know that packaging is important for sustainable development — economically, environmentally, and socially. Packaging can help save the earth’s resources in many ways, for example making sure more products reach their final destination. Packaging that is made from renewable raw materials can also make a real difference to the climate and the environment.

New England Aquarium Reception

Attendees will depart in shuttles from the main lobby of the Marriott Copley Place hotel at 5:30 pm to head to our Thursday evening reception at the New England Aquarium. Enjoy drinks and New England style fare, sourced and served on sustainably-sourced foodserviceware, while networking with new and old friends in the Main Exhibit Gallery of the New England Aquarium that includes the popular little blue penguins! No advance registration necessary, all attendees are invited to attend.

Reception will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm. At the end of reception, attendees will be shuttled back to the Marriott Copley Place.

Myrtle is a rescued and non-releasable sea turtle, which has lived in the Aquarium since 1970.
