Samantha MacBride
New York City Department of Sanitation
Samantha MacBride is Director of Research and Operations at the Bureau of Recycling and Sustainability, New York City Department of Sanitation, where she has worked for nearly two decades.
Her primary work at present involves curbside organics operations and programming, data and measurement related to responsible and sustainable waste management, and waste characterization. She has taught undergraduate and graduate coursework in urban infrastructure, ecology and society for over a decade, and currently teaches at the Marxe School of Public Affairs, Baruch College, City University of New York. Dr. MacBride holds a PhD in environmental sociology and a MPA in Environmental Policy from NYU, and a BA in Biology from the Johns Hopkins University. Like most of us in the waste management field, Samantha finds trash, discards, materials, and industrial processes endlessly fascinating and a source of inspiration every day.
