GreenBlue is pleased to announce that Sarah Messer has joined the team as a Communications Associate with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. Sarah has a degree in Spanish from the University of Virginia and co-founded a local, organic juice bar with a focus on sustainable food systems.

What inspired you to work in the sustainability field?

What other field is there?! In this great time of transformation in which we are living, it is imperative that we are all mindful of the world at large, how interconnected we are to every species & every ecosystem. To me, the act of being sustainable is measured by how respectful we as humans are about the ways we affect the systems of life around us. The sustainability field  is a natural choice for me, since I believe we all only can succeed by living in reverence of all of life that has come before us, all that is, and all life that will come after us.

What do you hope to achieve at GreenBlue?

At GreenBlue, I hope to not only elevate myself to higher understanding of those interconnections and what we as humans and stewards of the Earth have the ability to control and shift, but to be able to elevate those around me. Whether it be through interactions in my personal or professional life, I will continue to be driven by my curiosity about creative problem solving and to motivate us to all work together in a forward thinking direction. It most excites me to have the privilege to work alongside so many diversely knowledgeable individuals here at GreenBlue and within this ever-growing community concerned with how we can continually do things better. At GreenBlue, I know I will find actionable means to exercise my desires to create dynamic transformation in the world for the betterment of all.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Whenever I find myself having time, I like to be as active as possible, whether it’s walking in the woods with my 3 rescue dogs, taking a water aerobics class, practicing yoga, learning ballet or interval training, moving is an important component of my daily life. When I am ready to sit still, I have a book going for my every mood from Russian history to contemporary magical realism to Permaculture 101.

Happiness is…

Life itself!
