Sam Deconinck

Sam Deconinck became OWS’s Deputy Lab Manager in 2017, and currently manages several multi-national projects involving recycling, integrated waste management and waste composition. Sam obtained a Masters degree in Bioscience Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Technology in 2005 at the State University of Ghent in Belgium. Sam manages the team responsible for planning, follow-up and reporting of biodegradability and compostability testing and certification, as well as contract research. He represents OWS on several bodies: the Advisory Committee of the Seedling Mark at European Bioplastics; BPI’s Standards and Procedures Committee; ISO TC61 (Plastics) SC5 WG22 on Biodegradability, ISO TC38 (Textiles); WG30 on Tests on Biodegradability; and the Board of Directors of Belgian BioPackaging.
