Jason Pelz

Bio

Jason Pelz is Vice President of Sustainability for Tetra Pak in the United States, Canada, Central America and the Caribbean. Jason and his team work with a range of stakeholders across various geographies to advance Tetra Pak’s global sustainability ambitions, including growing recycling and collection of post-consumer cartons, and reducing climate impact across the value chain. Jason also serves as Vice President of Recycling Projects for Carton Council of North America, where he works with food and beverage brand owners, local municipalities and communities, and other third parties such as recyclers and paper mills to increase the availability of carton recycling in the U.S. and Canada.

Why do you want to serve on the Executive Committee?

I have always had a passion for sustainability and SPC is doing some great things in that space. Serving on the Executive Committee would allow me to put that passion to work to help drive more positive change when it comes to packaging sustainability. I also believe that there MUST be collaboration to address the challenges facing our industry when it comes to sustainability. The Executive Committee at SPC would be a platform for me to collaborate with other sustainability leaders to help find new solutions.

What do you think you would contribute as an Executive Committee representative?

I have been fortunate to have spent my entire career – and really the majority of my life – engaged in some form of sustainability. I grew up in a recycling family and worked for a paper mill company, a collection sorting and baling company and a waste management company before joining Tetra Pak, a full-service food and beverage package and processing solutions provider, where I have spent the last 10 years. My background will allow me to contribute firsthand knowledge and experience in several areas across the sustainability value chain. Furthermore, working for Tetra Pak and having been responsible for sustainability initiatives around the world, I can bring external points of view that can bring a different perspective to addressing problems and issues. Finally, one of my strengths is working collaboratively with others, something I have always used to learn and build bridges. In my role at Carton Council, my partners are actually my competitors, yet even as competitors we have a common goal: to increase carton recycling for all cartons. I can bring this attitude of collaboration to help the SPC Executive Committee work with all stakeholders to bring about meaningful change in our industry.
