Mark Hepp is a staff scientist specializing in chemical risk assessments of federally regulated food packaging materials and other food-contact articles. He has extensive experience in managing scientific, regulatory and policy reviews for Food Additive Petitions, Food Contact  Notifications (FCNs), Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) Notices, and Threshold of Regulation (TOR) exemption filings. Prior to joining Keller and Heckman, Dr. Hepp served for more than 15 years as a Consumer Safety Officer at the Food and Drug Administration, Office of Food Additive Safety. In this role, Dr. Hepp evaluated safety data on food-contact substances, integrated food additive technical reviews into Agency safety decisions, advised stakeholders on the development of data packages, and developed Agency guidance on many food additive issues, including approaches to the regulation of active packaging materials, and technical effects and jurisdictional issues relating to antimicrobial food additives.
