Jack Macy is a Senior Zero Waste Coordinator for the City and County of San Francisco, Department of the Environment. He has more than 30 years of experience in developing and managing innovative and model composting, recycling and other zero waste programs and policies at the local and state level. He led the development of the first large scale US urban food composting program and has pioneered zero waste policies and implementation for San Francisco, including adopting a zero waste policy, mandatory composting and recycling separation, banning polystyrene foam, requiring compostable and recyclable products, and banning single use plastic bags and requiring bag charges. He has presented across the globe and helped a wide variety of jurisdictions and organizations in pursuing zero waste. He also serves on the Board of the California Organics Recycling Council of CRRA.
